Description:

Reconstruction and rehabilitation of the Archimedes Screw Pump “B” at the City of Laurel Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Last year (2020), City rehabbed a screw.  The screws are used to move the waste in elevation to where it can gravity feed through the rest of the treatment process before being sent out to the river.  That screw had been in service since 1986.  The channel was rebuilt, some grout had come off and damaged the screw.  It needed to have redundant pumping down at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.

Timeline:

Desired construction to begin in 2021.  Engineer’s services will commence upon contract authorization with the intent to complete the Bidding Phase in the spring of 2021.  The final schedule is dependent on funding availability and equipment lead time.

Budget:

Task Order for services rendered for this project is $67,200.00.

Description:

There are three screws at the Wastewater Treatment Plant.  Those screws are used to lift all sewer water into the treatment plant.  The City has gone through this process with the replacement of screw pump “A”.

Screw pump “B” has dents, and the concrete is coming apart.

Screw pump “A” would be overwhelmed during a rain event.  Screw pump “B” assists with managing the additional flow.  Sewer flows are higher in the morning and evening when people are home.

Timeline:

Contract will get underway and then be suspended until the pump is received.

Work will begin late October 2021.

Budget:

Contractors were asked to pre-qualify prior to bidding. On July 1st, 2021, two qualified bids were received; Star Construction put in screw pump “A” last year but came in higher this year.  COP Construction came in at $169k.

Bid awarded for this project is $169,961.00.
